Top Story

The story
Nordic employees of Tesla are striking back against Elon Musk’s strict no union policy.

The background
At 65%, Sweden has one of the highest rates in the world of workers in Unions and about 9/10 of those are covered by collective agreement. The carmaker has refused to sign the agreement with speculation that it may cause ripple effects for follow-ups in other countries.
This appears to be a good example of the Swedish way of doing business vs the American management style.
Technicians have expressed that it is just work, work, work.

The effects
Although sales may not be affected, the strike which started in Sweden is making all the necessary noise.
- Union in Denmark says it will no longer transport vehicles to Sweden
- Postal workers have refused to deliver license plates to new Tesla drivers in Sweden
- Cleaners won’t work in the Swedish offices and electricians won’t service charging points
- PensionDenmark sold it its $70 million stake in Tesla out of solidarity with the workers
…and more

While there is a growing support for the workers, there are questions on whether Sweden’s reliance on labour management hinders business flexibility.
Either way, it’s worth following how this ends.

Also

It has been a chilly past few days. The lowest recorded temperature for January in 25 years in Sweden. The extreme weather caused disruption to schools and transport. Around 1000 vehicles were stuck in heavy snow for more than 24 hours in Skåne.

Meanwhile, going to colder places, Marcus Wandt is in training to be the next Swede travelling to space. 🚀
